1164 DAVID BURTON (1883-1945) ATTACKED IN THE JUNGLE Watercolour and pencil 46 x 63cm. * Burton took up painting during his convalescence from burns inflicted during the Great War. Lucy Wertheim sponsored and supported Burton whilst he worked as a pavement artist (or "screever") but he felt that concrete was unrewarding compared with Bath stone: "you can't get a good surface to crayon on."
